International Trade Experts To Present At Prestigious Pan Pacific Conference In Oakland

The 2002 Pan Pacific conference is an international meeting of key figures in international trade from around the world, many of whom have never presented before in the Western Hemisphere. The event occurs every two years. This year the Port of Oakland has the honor of hosting the prestigious conference at the Marriott City Center, October 15 and 16, 2002.

The final agenda has been set and promises extraordinary U.S. and international representation.
The Pan Pacific Conference will open the morning of Tuesday October 15th with presentations by Lon Hatamiya, Secretary of the State of California’s Technology, Trade and Commerce Agency and Rodney Slater, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The luncheon presentation will feature Mr. GUAN Tongxian president and CEO of ZPMC, the largest container crane manufacturer in the world. Panel presentations the first day will include “International Port Security Developments” moderated by the Port of Vancouver, Canada; “Port Development Within An Urban Area” moderated by the Port of Dalian, China; and “Container Crane Technologies” moderated by the Port of Shanghai. The final presentation of the first day of the Conference will feature Jon Hemingway, president of Stevedoring Services of America.

The second day of the Conference will begin with panel presentations “Ensuring Long-Term Sustainability Of Our Ports: What Should We Be Doing Today?” moderated by the Melbourne Port Corporation; and “Cooperation Between Ports In East Asia” moderated by the Port of Yokohama. The luncheon presentation will highlight two of the world’s premier railroads featuring Matthew Rose, president and CEO of the BNSF Railroad and Ivor (Ike) Evans, president and COO of the Union Pacific Railroad. Afternoon presentations will feature Doug Tilden, President and CEO of Marine Terminals Corporation and a panel discussion featuring five of the West Coast’s Port Authorities and moderated by the Port of Oakland.

“It will be a busy and highly productive two days,” said Port of Oakland Executive Director Tay Yoshitani. “Both the presentations by world leaders in our industry and the social opportunities to personally meet the presenters and attendees to discuss the Conference topics make this a unique opportunity to exchange ideas,” added Yoshitani.

Space at the Conference is still available at $895.00 for full attendance at all events. Conference Delegates will benefit from presentations by over two-dozen world-renowned industry experts.
