Two New Members Appointed to WETA Board of Directors

Last week, California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon appointed Jessica Alba to the San Francisco Bay Area Water Emergency Transportation Authority (WETA) Board of Directors.

Alba fills the vacancy left by the resignation of Nick Josefowitz in April 2020 and her term is effective until January 1, 2024.

“We are so thrilled to welcome Director Alba to the WETA Board,” said Nina Rannells, WETA’s executive director. “Her expertise in transportation policy and fresh outlook will be of huge value to our mission of building a world-class ferry system for the Bay Area.”

Alba is the transportation policy manager for Stanford University. She represents and supports the university on local, regional, state and federal transportation policy matters. Prior to joining Stanford in 2017, Alba worked on transportation policy at Trivector Traffic and Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates, also serving as the latter’s director of staff development. She holds dual M.S. degrees in Earth Science and Environmental Sciences from Lund University in Sweden.

“Building better transportation in the Bay Area is critical to addressing many of the region’s issues,” said Alba. “I am honored to join my new colleagues on WETA’s Board of Directors and excited to help guide the path forward for regional ferry service. I also want to thank Speaker Rendon for entrusting me with this role.”

The WETA Board of Directors is a five-member body. Three members, including the chair and vice chair, are appointed by the governor. One member is appointed by the Senate Rules Committee. One member is appointed by the Assembly Speaker.

Monique Moyer was the second new appointee to the WETA Board of Directors in recent weeks.

Alba joins Chair Jim Wunderman and Directors Anthony Intintoli and Jeff DelBono on the WETA Board. There remained one vacancy on the Board of Directors, which was filled by Governor Gavin Newsom this week when he appointed Monique Moyer to the Board of Directors.

Moyer fills the vacancy created when Jim Wunderman was named WETA Board Chair in January 2020 and her term is effective until January 1, 2026.

“We are excited to welcome Vice Chair Moyer to our Board of Directors,” said Nina Rannells, WETA’s executive director. “She’s deeply experienced in waterfront issues and municipal finance, and that background will be incredibly useful for WETA going forward. On a personal level, I’m really excited to get to work with Vice Chair Moyer again in her new role.”

Moyer is a senior managing director of Global Workplace Solutions at CBRE, a global commercial real estate services firm. Prior to 2016, she worked in various roles with the City and County of San Francisco for 20 years. This included 12 years as the executive director of the Port of San Francisco, where she collaborated with WETA on a number of projects, including the Downtown San Francisco Ferry Terminal Expansion Project.

“From my tenure leading the Port of San Francisco, I know the importance of having a vigorous ferry system for the Bay Area,” Moyer said. “I look forward to working with the staff at WETA, Chair Wunderman and my fellow directors to realize our vision for water transportation to serve emergency response and economic recovery needs. I am grateful to Governor Newsom for appointing me to serve in this important position.”
